Sea Kayaking | Everglades, FL: Loading Price...

Program Details

This introductory sea kayaking course is an experiential, field-based, excursion, focusing on the basic skills necessary to live out of a sea kayak and navigate between islands in a marine environment. Skill progression, equipment selection, terminology, and potential risks are all introduced as foundational skills for sea kayaking. Camp on white sand beaches, paddle with dolphins, and soak up the culture and sunshine of Florida's most primitive coast. We will paddle from island to island while learning about marine estuaries and the mangroves that influence the complex ecosystem known as the Everglades. Check out this sample video to get a feel for this adventure.

This is a backcountry trip: Participants on this trip will sleep in tents and there will be no access to showers, running water, or other modern amenities. Trip leaders will teach participants how to dispose of waste properly by following Leave No Trace ethics.

Trip fee includes: All meals, transportation, trip leader instruction, and activity-specific gear rental (excludes personal clothing and footwear).

Difficulty level: 4 out of 5. Please reference the OAC Physical Challenge Scale for additional fitness information.

This trip is offered for academic credit: After registering for the trip, email adventure@osu.edu requesting permission to be enrolled.
