Program Details

On this trip we will backpack a section of the historic John Muir Trail in the High Sierra mountains of California. The trip will span 29 days. Participants will develop leadership and technical skills for expedition-style backpacking trips. This trip is appropriate for novice and experienced backpackers looking for a chance to get away from it all. Spots are not guaranteed until an application is submitted and an interview has taken place with the trip leaders Ronnie Carlson & Spenser Herkelman.

This is a STEP Approved Trip: Use your STEP funds for an truly transformational experience. The trip is also open to students who are not in the STEP program!

Trip fee includes: All transportation (including flights), lodging, food & $750 of gear to keep.

This is a backcountry trip: Participants on this trip will sleep in tents and there will be no access to showers, running water, or other modern amenities. Trip leaders will teach participants how to dispose of waste properly by following Leave No Trace ethics.

Difficulty level: 5 out of 5. Please reference the OAC Physical Challenge Scale for additional fitness information.

This trip requires additonal vetting: After paying the intial deposit for the trip, email herkelman.1@osu.edu requesting an application form and to set up an interview.
